Under the auspices of the International Committee of the Red Cross: round table “The Russian contribution to the formation of international humanitarian law and the ideas of humanity: historical, legal, diplomatic and cultural aspects”

May 18, 2018 in Moscow, under the auspices of the International Committee of the Red Cross, a round table was held on the topic “Russian contribution to the formation of international humanitarian law and the ideas of humanity: historical, legal, diplomatic and cultural aspects.”

The event took place within the framework of the project dedicated to the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the St. Petersburg Declaration of 1868 on the prohibition of the use during the wars of some explosive shells that bring severe suffering to the wounded.

The following reports were presented by  E. Zamanikhina (Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia), U. Mammadov (Kazan Federal University), O. Glickman (MGIMO), V. Ivanenko (St. Petersburg State University), B. Ionov (Russian State Humanitarian University), O. Chistyakov (Russian State Military Historical Archive), O. Bondarenko (Regional delegation of International Committee of the Red Cross in Moscow).

As a moderator and speaker, the meeting was attended by the head of the Aviation Medicine Center of our Institute, Professor of the Department of State and Legal Disciplines of the Institute of Legislation and Comparative Law under the Government of RF, I. Hkolikov. Summing up the results of the meeting he told about the contribution of Russian medical workers, including military surgeons, to the development of the sphere of assistance to victims of armed conflicts.
