The presentation of the new Environmental Noise Guidelines for the European Region

On October 10, 2018, a one-day Seminar was held in Basel, Switzerland dedicated to the presentation of the new Environmental Noise Guidelines for the European Region.

In the EU, at least 100 million people are exposed to traffic noise. The resolution of the 5th Ministerial Conference on the Environment of the WHO Regional Office for Europe, held in 2010 in the Italian Parma, invited the participating countries to develop this Guidelines, presenting to the reader all the medical aspects of the effects of environmental noise, including traffic noise (vehicles, railway and air transport), leisure noise (entertainment events) and noise from windmills (turbines).

The Seminar was attended not only by representatives of WHO Headquarters (Dr. Maria Neira) and the WHO Regional Office for Europe (Dr. Piroska Ostlin, Dr. Dorota Jarosinska), but also representatives of the largest scientific centers in many European countries engaged in general hygiene and the environment research.

From our Institute, the Deputy Director for Organizational Work and International Cooperation, E.E. Shigan took place in Seminar.
