A great scientist has passed away…

Nikolay MUKHIN, 4.12.1936 — 28.01.2018

January 28th, 2018, outstanding domestic therapist, head of the chair of internal, occupational diseases and pulmonology, director of the clinic of nephrology, internal and occupational diseases of Sechenov University, head of the chair of internal diseases of Lomonosov Moscow State University, vice-president of Russian science society of internal medicine, President of Science society of nephrology, Laureate of the USSR State Prizes, Honoured Worker of Science of the Russian Federation, MD, PhD, Professor, RAS Academician Nikolay Mukhin died after a serious illness in 82 years of life.

The whole life of N. Mukhin was connected with I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State University which he graduated from in 1960 and to where he came back, entered graduate school at the chair of therapy and occupational diseases after his work as a doctor of polar stations at Franz Josef Land. He worked at the chair of therapy and occupational diseases: first as an assistant, then assistant professor, professor, and since 1986 as a head of the chair and director of E.M. Tareev Clinic of nephrology, internal and occupational diseases. His was forming as a doctor, a scientist under the leadership of Academician Tareev whom he always respected.

N. Mukhin made a huge contribution to the development of Russian medicine. Doctors know well his works in the sphere of nephrology, rheumatology, hepatology, pulmonology, rare and occupational diseases. The clinic headed by N. Mukhin always remained one of the leading centers of internal medicine of our country.

Several decades scientific interests of N. Mukhin interlaced with many activity directions of FSBSI “Izmerov Research Institute of Occupational Health”.

N. Mukhin was not only regular participant of different scientific events devoted to the issues of workers' health preservation and different aspects of occupational pathology, but he was a friend of N. Izmerov.

Nikolay Mukhin was a wonderful pedagogue, educated a large number of students and wrote several textbooks on internal diseases for students and numerous guidelines for doctors.

Scientific interests of N. Mukhin were broad and fundamental. At the same time N. Mukhin was distinguished by his intelligence, high erudition, diversity of creative interests, knowledge of world and Russian literature, classic music.

His death became an irreparable loss for his relatives, colleagues, students, patients. He will always remain in our memory…
